Overview
The Siamese is a classic pointed breed with a sleek short coat, vivid blue almond-shaped eyes and a wedge-shaped head. Extremely vocal, intelligent and affectionate, it forms strong bonds with its people and is one of the most recognisable cats in the world.
History & Origin
An ancient temple and palace cat of Thailand (Siam), described in 14th-century manuscripts. Siamese were among the first Asian breeds brought to the West in the late 1800s and became foundational to many modern breeds.
Appearance & Coat
A svelte, muscular cat with a long tubular body, slim legs and a short, fine coat that is pale on the body with darker “points” on the face, ears, legs and tail. Eye colour is always deep blue.
Temperament
Siamese are famously talkative “chatterboxes” who demand conversation and companionship. They are clever, athletic and affectionate, and dislike being left alone for long.
Care & Grooming
The fine coat needs only occasional brushing. Their social needs are high — a feline companion and daily engagement keep them happy and well-behaved.
Health & Lifespan
Lifespan is 12–16 years. Watch for amyloidosis, dental disease and strabismus in some lines; responsible breeding reduces risks.
Recognition
Recognised by TICA, CFA, WCF, FIFe and the GCCF.
