Overview

The Serengeti is a hybrid-looking breed developed to resemble a wild serval but with no wild blood, featuring a long spotted short coat and large rounded ears. Energetic, curious and affectionate, it is a striking, active companion.

History & Origin

Created in the 1990s in the United States by crossing Bengal cats with Oriental Shorthairs, aiming for the serval's long legs, big ears and spotted coat while staying fully domestic.

Appearance & Coat

A tall, slender, long-legged cat with very large round-tipped ears, a small head and a short spotted (often bullseye) coat in black on gold or silver. The silhouette is distinctly “wildcat”.

Temperament

Serengetis are lively, curious and people-loving, with the Oriental's chattiness dialed down a notch. They enjoy climbing and play and bond closely with family.

Care & Grooming

Short coat, minimal grooming. They need vertical space and enrichment; they are confident and adaptable indoors.

Health & Lifespan

Lifespan is 12–15 years. A newer breed with no major known hereditary diseases; standard care applies.

Recognition

Recognised by TICA.
