Snowshoe
A striking breed combining the Siamese colourpoint pattern with white feet and mitts, and blue eyes; affectionate and playful.
Overview
The Snowshoe combines the Siamese colourpoint pattern with distinctive white feet and mittens and vivid blue eyes. Affectionate, playful and social, it has a medium, sturdy build and a sweet, expressive face.
History & Origin
An American breed that appeared in the 1960s when a litter of Siamese produced odd white-pawed kittens; breeders crossed Siamese with American Shorthairs and Birmans to fix the look.
Appearance & Coat
A medium-sized, semi-cobby cat with a short coat in seal or blue point, white “snowshoe” mittens on front paws and longer white “boots” behind. The blue eyes and masked face are signature.
Temperament
Snowshoes are friendly, outgoing and moderately vocal — less demanding than the Siamese but still sociable. They enjoy family life and get on with other pets.
Care & Grooming
The short coat needs only weekly brushing. They are people-oriented and appreciate interaction and play without being clingy.
Health & Lifespan
Lifespan is 12–15 years. A rare breed with few known hereditary issues; standard care keeps them healthy.
Recognition
Recognised by TICA and the CFA.
