Overview

The Donskoy (also called the Russian Hairless) is a hairless breed from Russia with soft, elastic wrinkled skin and a gentle, affectionate personality. It occurs in several coat-mutation forms.

History & Origin

First appeared in Rostov-on-Don in 1987 from a hairless stray cat; unlike the Sphynx, the Donskoy's hairlessness is dominant. It was developed in Russia and later shared with the world.

Appearance & Coat

A medium-sized, muscular cat with a wedge head, large ears and wrinkled skin that may be fully bald, “flock” (velour), “velour” or “brush” (some coat). The skin is warm and elastic to the touch.

Temperament

Donskoys are friendly, intelligent and people-loving, often very attached to their family. They are playful and adapt well to home life.

Care & Grooming

Like other hairless cats, they need regular baths to remove skin oils and must be kept warm indoors. Brush-coated variants need minimal grooming.

Health & Lifespan

Lifespan is 12–15 years. Generally healthy; standard care and warmth are key.

Recognition

Recognised by TICA, WCF and FIFe.
