Thai
The traditional, rounder-headed form of the Siamese with a colourpoint short coat and blue eyes; friendly, vocal and sociable.
Overview
The Thai cat is the traditional, rounder-headed form of the Siamese, with a colourpoint short coat and blue eyes. Friendly, vocal and sociable, it retains the classic “apple-head” look of the early Siamese.
History & Origin
Preserving the original Siamese type that existed before the modern wedge-headed standard, the Thai was recognised as a distinct breed by European registries in the 1990s–2000s, directly from old-style Siamese lines.
Appearance & Coat
A medium-sized, moderately cobby cat with a rounder head (not the extreme wedge), blue almond eyes and a short point-restricted coat in seal, blue, chocolate and more.
Temperament
Thais are affectionate, chatty and people-centered, much like the Siamese in personality but often a touch less intense. They love company and conversation.
Care & Grooming
Minimal coat care with weekly brushing. High sociability means they do best with companionship and play.
Health & Lifespan
Lifespan is 12–16 years. Generally healthy; similar considerations to Siamese regarding dental and amyloidosis screening.
Recognition
Recognised by WCF, FIFe and TICA (as Thai).
