Overview
A large, plump bright-green tree frog with a calm, hardy nature, one of the most popular pet frogs.
History & Origin
The tree frog is native to Australia / New Guinea. It belongs to the family Rhacophoridae, a lineage of amphibians distributed across those regions and kept both in the wild and by specialist keepers.
Appearance & Size
White's Tree Frog is a medium (7–10 cm) frog.
Temperament
Generally hardy and tolerant of gentle handling when raised in captivity, though individual temperament varies.
Care & Husbandry
Tree frogs are arboreal, with toe pads for climbing; they need a tall, planted, humid enclosure with vertical perches and misting. Diet is mostly insects; many (e.g. Red-eyed, White's) are hardy and popular, while others need precise humidity.
Health & Lifespan
Prone to dehydration and bacterial skin infection if humidity drops; red-leg syndrome is a serious risk. Maintain humidity and cleanliness. In captivity a healthy individual may live around 10–15 years.
Popularity & Recognition
Tree frogs gave us the Red-eyed Tree Frog (a conservation poster child) and White's Tree Frog (a chubby, smiling favourite); their toe pads are a marvel of adhesion.
