Exotic Longhair
The longhaired version of the Exotic Shorthair, combining the Persian body with a plush semi-long coat; sweet, quiet and affectionate.
Overview
The Exotic Longhair is the longhaired version of the Exotic Shorthair, combining the Persian body and sweet face with a plush semi-long coat. Sweet, quiet and affectionate, it is often called a “shorthaired Persian in a long coat”.
History & Origin
Occasional long-haired kittens appeared in Exotic Shorthair litters (Persian ancestry), and registries recognised the longer coat as a separate variety in the 1990s–2000s.
Appearance & Coat
A medium-to-large, cobby cat with a round head, short nose and a soft, dense semi-long coat in all Persian colours. The coat is longer than an Exotic's but shorter than a full Persian's.
Temperament
Like the Exotic, they are gentle, calm and loving, enjoying a lap and a quiet home. They are easy companions for many households.
Care & Grooming
Needs more frequent brushing than the shorthaired Exotic but less than a Persian. Eye/wrinkle cleaning still helps the flat face.
Health & Lifespan
Lifespan is 12–15 years. Same brachycephalic and PKD considerations as Persians; choose tested breeders.
Recognition
Recognised by TICA, CFA, WCF, FIFe and the GCCF.
