Overview

The Havana Brown is a medium-sized cat with a rich warm-brown (mahogany) short coat, vivid green oval eyes and large forward-tipped ears. Intelligent, curious and social, it is a rare and distinctive companion.

History & Origin

Created in Britain in the 1950s by crossing seal-point Siamese with black domestic and Russian Blue-type cats to recapture the solid chocolate cats of the 1890s. The breed was later refined in the United States.

Appearance & Coat

A svelte but muscular cat with a long, narrow head, prominent whisker pads and a short, smooth, solid mahogany-to-chestnut coat (no tabby markings). The green eyes and “Oriental” muzzle are hallmarks.

Havana Browns are people-oriented, curious and playful, often greeting visitors and following their owners. They are intelligent and enjoy puzzle toys and gentle training.

Care & Grooming

The short coat needs only occasional brushing. They are warm-loving and prefer indoor comfort, with daily interaction to stay content.

Health & Lifespan

Lifespan is 12–15 years. A rare breed with few known hereditary issues; routine care keeps them well.

Recognition

Recognised by TICA and the CFA.
