A low, sturdy Irish terrier once used to turn spits—quiet, strong, and rare.

Overview. The Glen of Imaal Terrier is a low, powerful Irish terrier developed in a remote valley, used both for vermin control and for turning meat on a spit.

History & Origin

One of Ireland's four terrier breeds, it is among the rarest, named for the Glen of Imaal in Wicklow.

Appearance & Coat

Long-bodied and bow-legged, with a medium wiry coat in blue-brindle or wheaten and a broad head.

Temperament

Less noisy than many terriers, it is strong-willed but affectionate and game.
